Carrick Hill Café

COFFEE, SWEET TREATS, BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AT THE CARRICK HILL café

You can find Tabel Catering at Carrick Hill, one of South Australia’s most significant cultural attractions. Comprising of a magnificent manor-style home bequeathed to the state by Sir Edward and Lady Ursula Hayward. Completed in 1939 it features a Tudor staircase, an extensive art collection and original furniture and fixtures of the era. Surrounded by formal English-style gardens, the grounds cover 40 hectares of land including 26 hectares of native bushland, with multiple walking trails and places to explore.

Join us at the café for breakfast, lunch, snacks and sweet treats, all made in-house. The perfect spot to stop for refreshments after touring the house, wandering the gardens or walking the trails with the kids and dog.

Open Wednesday to Sunday 10am-4.30pm with the kitchen closing at 3pm. You can view our current café menu here.

Funeral and Memorial Catering
At an often difficult time, we can assist you in planning a beautiful service to honour the passing of a loved one. Surrounded by the peaceful gardens of Carrick Hill, services can be held outdoors or within the marquee overlooking the rose garden. High Tea at Carrick Hill

Carrick Hill is quite possibly the perfect spot to enjoy high tea. Set amongst an idyllic garden setting, you can join us for an abundance of savoury and sweet treats, all made in-house. Enjoy with a tea or coffee and a glass of bubbles all presented on a clothed table, complete with a vase of seasonal flowers picked straight from the garden. Indulge in our renown house-made pastries, delicious pies, sandwiches, tarts, scones and cakes – the menu changes regularly, so each will be a delectable surprise.

A real afternoon tea, the kind your grandmother would make, featuring good old-fashioned favourites, all made by hand.

Available Wednesday to Sunday, 10am-3pm, high tea is a lovely way to celebrate a baby shower, bridal shower, birthday or any special celebration. You can read more here.

Weddings and Events at Carrick Hill

Carrick Hill is located just 15 minutes from the Adelaide CBD. It boasts picture-perfect gardens for weddings and events of all kinds. It includes native bushland, lawned terraces, orchards and an abundance of flowering blooms. The cypress pine walkways, pleached-pear arbour and tree-lined avenues offer countless photographic opportunities. Spectacular views stretch from the Gulf of St Vincent right across to the city making it the perfect backdrop for any celebration.

It is the ideal wedding location as guests are welcomed to one location without having to travel between the ceremony and reception. Receptions are held in the fully-customisable permanent marquee. It overlooks the fragrant rose gardens and across to the glittering city skyline which is just magical in the evening.

We have catered for hundreds of weddings and events, it’s what we do best and we have the awards to prove it. Our food is generous and flavourful, all made in-house using the freshest of seasonal and local produce. Platters are served to the table for guests to serve themselves ensuring a relaxed, convivial environment where everyone has a fantastic time.

Tabel Catering

Together John Gabel and Amy Hage are Tabel Catering. Both are award-winning chefs with decades of experience in restaurants and catering, committed to providing fantastic food and great service. They pride themselves on making as much as possible in-house using the freshest, seasonal and local produce.

John Gabel
My grandmother taught me to cook when I was young – on weekends we’d make cakes and traditional dishes from her German heritage. From there I decided to make it my career, learning from some of the best in the industry. I’ve worked in kitchens all over Adelaide gaining skills and experience, honing my own style… simple, honest and generous food that satisfies. Even after all these years, I’m still learning and enjoy every day in the kitchen where I get to prepare great food for people who love to eat.

Amy Hage
When I was a child, my mother cooked simple, honest, hearty meals but I longed for something creative, new, innovative and exciting. My food is a modern interpretation of those old school classics, the best of both worlds. I love to share food and get so much enjoyment from cooking for others – I love to see the enjoyment that good food brings and I love to enjoy other people’s food too.

I grow some of my own food at home and am teaching my two young girls that good food doesn’t need to be complicated – it’s about using quality ingredients with skill. Sounds simple doesn’t it!
